PLANTATION SERIES
The most popular, and profitable, of the PLANTATION SERIES was the venerable MANDINGO franchise which consisted of 14 novels published between 1959 and 1986. More plantation sagas, such as SABREHILL, CHANE, CARIBEE, BLACKOAKS, KAYWANA, DRAGONARD, WINDHAVEN, BEULAH LAND and others, soon followed.
BEULAH LAND
The BEULAH LAND TRILOGY is among the best of the plantation novel genre. The first book, BEULAH LAND, details the trials and tribulations of the slave-holding Kendrick clan during the years 1800-1861. LOOK AWAY, BEULAH LAND covers the years 1864-1874 and finds the Kendricks struggling to survive the Civil War, Yankees and carpetbaggers. The final novel, LEGACY OF BEULAH LAND, spans the years 1879-1895.
BLACKOAKS
The BLACKOAKS plantation series, ghostwritten by Harry Whittington using the Ashley Carter pseudonymn, consists of three volumes published between 1976 and 1981. Titles include: MASTER OF BLACKOAKS, SECRET OF BLACKOAKS and HERITAGE OF BLACKOAKS.
CARIBEE
The CARIBEE series consisted of five titles, written by Christopher Nicole, and originally published between 1974 and 1979. Titles include: CARIBEE, THE DEVIL'S OWN, MISTRESS OF DARKNESS, BLACK DAWN and SUNSET.
CHANE
The CHANE plantation series consists of three novels written by Norman Gant and published in paperback by Lancer Books in 1968 and 1969. Titles include CHANE, BLACK VENGEANCE and SLAVE EMPIRE. All three titles were later issued in an omnibus edition by Lancer entitled WRATH OF CHANE.
DEAVORS FAMILY SAGA
The DEAVORS FAMILY SAGA, written by George McNeill, consisted of four titles published in paperback by Bantam Books between 1975 and 1983. Titles include THE PLANTATION, RAFAELLA, THE HELLIONS and WHITE TRASH.
DRAGONARD
THE DRAGONARD SERIES, by Rupert Gilchrist, consisted of six volumes originally published in hardcover by Souvenir Press in England between 1975 and 1980. Titles include: DRAGONARD(1975), MASTER OF DRAGONARD (1976), DRAGONARD BLOOD (1977), DRAGONARD RISING (1979), THE SEIGE OF DRAGONARD HILL (1979) and GUNS OF DRAGONARD (1980). In the United States, paperback reprints were available from Bantam. In Canada, paperback reprints were offered by Golden Apple Publishers.
GEORGIANS
THE GEORGIANS, an adult series, written by Cynthia Van Hazinga, consists of two volumes originally published by Dell in 1978 and 1980. Titles in this plantation series are: THE GEORGIANS and THE GEORGIANS II: WHITE COLUMNS.
GOLDEN STUD
GOLDEN STUD, Lance Horner's final novel, was originally intended to be a direct sequel to FLIGHT TO FALCONHURST. Horner died prior to publication and legal entanglements kept it from being issued as part of the Falconhurst canon. Fawcett revised the text and issued it as an single plantation novel in August 1975. Fawcett issued a sequel, SWORD OF THE GOLDEN STUD, by Ashley Carter (Harry Whittington) in 1977.
JALNA SAGA
The JALNA series, also known as the WHITEOAKS OF JALNA, was an adult series written by Mazo De La Roche, that consisted of 16 titles published between 1927 and 1960. The saga centers around the exploits of the prosperous Whiteoak family and their beautiful Canadian manor, Jalna.
KAYWANA SAGA
The KAYWANA SAGA consisted of three titles written by Edgar Mittelhölzer (1909-1965) and originally published between 1952 and 1958. Titles in the series are: CHILDREN OF KAYWANA, KAYWANA STOCK and KAYWANA BLOOD,
MANDINGO/FALCONHURST SERIES
The MANDINGO/FALCONHURST series consisted of 14 novels centered around the slaves and masters of a southern plantation called Falconhurst. The original trilogy, written by Kyle Onstott, consists of MANDINGO, DRUM and MASTER OF FALCONHURST. There were 11 sequels by Lance Horner and Ashley Carter. The best way to enjoy this series is to read the original trilogy and then slowly work your way through the rest of the collection.
OAKHURST SAGA
The OAKHURST SAGA consisted of four volumes, by Walter Reed Johnson, published in paperback between 1980 and 1983. Titles include: OAKHURST, MISTRESS OF OAKHURST, LION OF OAKHURST and FIRES OF OAKHURST.
ROXBOROUGH PLANTATION
THE ROXBOROUGH PLANTATION SERIES consists of six volumes written by Royston Ellis under his "Richard Tresillian" pseudonym between 1977 and 1984. Titles include: THE BONDMASTER, BLOOD OF THE BONDMASTER, THE BONDMASTER BREED, BONDMASTER FURY, BONDMASTER REVENGE and BONDMASTER BUCK.
ROYAL
The ROYAL series consists of at least two volumes by Stuart Jason centering on the life of a Mandingo slave on the Hunnicut Hill slave-breeding plantation. Titles include ROYAL STUD and ROYAL MASTER, both published by Manor Books in 1976.
SABREHILL
The SABREHILL series, written by Raymond Giles, consisted of five titles published in paperback by Fawcett between 1974 and 1983. Titles include: SABREHILL, SLAVES OF SABRE HILL, REBELS OF SABREHILL, STORM OVER SABREHILL and HELLCAT OF SABREHILL.
SLAVES OF THE EMPIRE
The SLAVES OF THE EMPIRE series, written by Kenneth Bulmer under the "Dael Forest" pseudonymn, consisted of five titles published by Ballantine in the late 1970's. Titles include: BARBA THE SLAVER, HAESEL THE SLAVE, BROTAN THE BREEDER, GRACUS THE CENTURION and CORISSA THE VESTAL VIRGIN. Boris Vallejo provided the cover illustrations for this series.
WINDHAVEN SAGA
The WINDHAVEN PLANTATION series, written by Marie de Jourlet, consisted of 14 paperback titles published by Pinnacle Books from 1977 through 1985.
