This book consists of The Mucker, first serialized in All-Story Cavalier Weekly in 1914, and The Return of the Mucker, serialized in All-Story Weekly in 1916. Both stories were issued in a single volume, entitled The Mucker, by the A.C. McClurg Company in 1921. In 1922 and 1940, Grosset & Dunlap issued hardcover reprints. In November 1964, Canaveral Press issued a hardcover reprint that used the J. Allen St. John artwork of earlier printings. In January 1966, Ballantine Books issued the first paperback printing with cover art by Bob Abbett. In 1974, Ace issued The Mucker and The Return of the Mucker in two separate volumes featuring artwork by Frank Frazetta.
