PEYTON PLACE By Grace Metalious & Roger Fuller

Peyton Place and Return to Peyton Place, written by Grace Metalious (1924-1964), were originally published by Julian Messner in 1956 and 1959, respectively. In 1957, 20th Century Fox released the film version of Peyton Place, starring Lana Turner and Diane Varsi. In 1961, the sequel, Return to Peyton Place was released, starring Carol Lynley and Jeff Chandler. Peyton Place, the television series, aired twice weekly from 1964 to 1969 and is credited as the first of the prime time soaps. During the run of the TV series, Pocket Books issued nine paperback novels, written by Roger Fuller, which continued the saga of the families of Peyton Place. In 1972, a daytime soap, Return to Peyton Place, premiered and aired until 1974. Two TV movies, Murder in Peyton Place (1977) and Peyton Place: The Next Generation (1985) reunited original cast members and brought closure to the series for fans of the scandalous little New England village.
